Privacy Policy

FairShare ("we", "our", "the app") is a mobile application for splitting expenses among groups of friends. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about the data we collect.

Data We Collect

We collect only the minimum data necessary to provide the service:

Email address — used for account authentication and password recovery.
Display name — a name you choose, shown to other group members.
Avatar color preference — your chosen profile color.
Expense data — descriptions, amounts, and payment records you create within your groups.
Group membership — which groups you belong to and your participation status.

You may optionally provide third-party payment identifiers such as your Venmo username or Zelle email or phone number to facilitate payments between group members. This information is stored separately from your profile, visible only to members of groups you belong to, and is used solely to pre-fill payment details. You can add, edit, or remove this information at any time from your profile settings.

How Your Data Is Stored

All data is stored securely on Supabase, a trusted cloud infrastructure provider built on PostgreSQL. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Our database enforces row-level security policies so users can only access data in groups they belong to.

How We Use Your Data

Your data is used exclusively to provide the FairShare service — calculating expense splits, tracking payments, and showing group information to members. We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond the core functionality of the app.

Third-Party Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties. Your data is only visible to members of the groups you join within the app.

Account Deletion

You can delete your account at any time from the Profile screen within the app. Account deletion permanently removes your profile, authentication credentials, and disassociates your data from your identity. This action cannot be undone.

Data Retention

We retain your data only as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your profile is permanently removed. Expense records in shared groups are retained for other members but are no longer linked to your identity.

Children's Privacy

FairShare is not intended for use by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
